A Bit Rude

As I said, I’ve been watching the news, and I picked out a story that I wanted to comment on.

It was about a mother, whose child was born with a very rare disease – with some fancy Latin name, that even the news reporter had trouble pronouncing – where the cranium is too small. This means the poor kid has trouble breathing and speaking. He’s six years old and has already had over thirty operations.

Now, the kid is about to go to school soon, and the mom wanted to make life easier for him. So she decided to hang up pictures at the library and have some info about the disease put up there as well, so people would know why he looks the way he does. This is a really beautiful thought, and apparently it had a great effect.

The reason for why she wanted to do this was, that she was getting sick of people staring, pointing and going: “Look at him!”

And she told about one time when she was taking her son to the pharmacy to get some medicine. When she was standing in line, a slightly older man comes up to her, looks at the kid, back to her and goes: “How come you’ve got such an ugly kid, when you’re so pretty?”

WHAT WAS HE THINKING?!

I hope she bitch-slapped him so hard, he couldn’t remember his own phone number.

Was that supposed to be a pickup line? Like a backhanded compliment of sorts, as to make sure he didn’t come over as too much of a “nice guy”? But instead of going for something along the lines of: “Those earrings are pretty, they really bring out your floppy ears though,” he decided to have a go at the innocent, disabled child!

I have a somewhat twisted, sick sense of humor, which means I love offensive jokes – Jimmy Carr, anyone? So my first reaction was to laugh really hard, before I went: “Wauw! What the hell? That is so wrong!”
